Photos 60 WHS Tour

On Saturday morning we had the second of five events for our 60th Reunion.  John Peel gave use a tour of Whittier High School as he did for your 50th Reunion.  Johe is so knowledgeable and a good story tellers.  He apologized that he would probably repeat things he said ten years ago.  He didn't.  There was so much new and he has so many stories that it was a fascinating tour.  Nothing was repeated.

Here are some pictures of the Saturday morning tour of Whittier High School given by John Peel, who gave the tour 10 years earlier at our 50th Reunion. He kept on apologizing that he was probably repeating things he said during the 50th Reunion tour. He was wrong. Either I have a poor memory or due to giving 200 tours he can't remember what he said on each tour. Things that I learned from John related to all the damages that had to be repaired due to earthquakes, details about all the new or rebuilt buildings, that the old filled in pool will be covered with some kind of roof, history about the fountain and art work inside the tunnel under Philadelphia. As far as I could remember nothing was repeated. The first picture is of the new band room that has trophies won in sporting events at WHS. There must be 1000 trophies in the band room lining all the walls.

Here is another picture of the Saturday morning tour of Whittier HS. This is the new cafeteria that I learned from John Peel was built of non flammable materials so it doesn'ts need fire sprinklers.

Does anyone know who Marian Wilson Hodge is? I didnot, but John Peel gave a great history of her as principal (and superintendent) of WHS during WW II. When the war was over and men were discharged she was replace by a man because she was a woman and I

In the WHS Library I learned that it was also rebuilt due to an earthquake. I (Buddy Hamilton) must have not spent much time in this library or much has changed since there were many parts that I do not remember.
